Screwy Haired Girl

I've got really screwy hair. LOVE IT.

SCREWY HAIR BUTTER

BECAUSE YOUR HAIR’S SCREWY

UPDATE: Change happens. I’ve shuttered Screwy Hair Products and drawn the curtain on my little corner of the interwebs. Should I start blogging again, I’ll be sure to let you know. Thanks for all the love!

a little back story
I’ve received positive feedback on my hair butter over the past several months. Family and friends, who have very coily hair like mine, have used the butter I’ve made for them (or prescribed) with great results each time and I kept getting comments about how their hair is now so soft. I also kept getting one question over and over again: “Why don’t you package this and sell it?” So that’s what I’m doing! I did a sales test run at the Lagos Natural Hair Meet-Up on November 19 and the response has allowed me to continue selling the product.

about the product
Screwy Hair Butter is handmade from all-natural ingredients (raw/unprocessed shea butter, homemade coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, 100% pure jojoba oil, 100% vegetable glycerin, and essential oils) with no chemicals and no preservatives. Screwy Hair Butter is a great hair conditioner that can be used on damp or dry hair, natural or relaxed hair. As an essential part of my hair regimen, it moisturises, strengthens, and seals my hair shaft for softer, healthier hair. For my porous screwy hair, which is really thirsty and greedy, Screwy Hair Butter is the business. And because it’s of a thick yet soft texture, a little goes a long way. Screwy Hair Butter is available in 2 scents: lavender and peppermint.

pricing & purchase
N1,200 (250 ml)
Please email me at screwyhair@gmail.com if you’d like to get some. For now, I’m only able to sell
within Lagos, Nigeria, and not online.

No, I no longer sell hair product (or run this blog, really, hence the late reply), but I didn’t sell outside Lagos when I did. NaturalNigerian.com and other bloggers have good products that ship to Abuja, though.

Hi Cherise. I hardly ever get to this blog anymore, hence my late response. Thanks, your too sweet :-) If you haven’t already found them, there are numerous bloggers and YouTubers who can help teach you about your hair. I believe I’ve listed some in other posts, but a simple Google search will be just as helpful and probably more up to date.

I don’t know where you live, but hair accessories can be found at grocery stores, beauty/hair supply shops, hair salons, etc. If you live in Lagos, you could try Shoprite, our few natural hair salons, some pharmacies, hair product sellers, and markets. Make sure your accessories are smooth and won’t snag your hair. Avoid anything with rough sides or tiny combs.

          Hope that helps!

Much love to you on starting out natural! It might get frustrating at first, but the trick is to figure out what your hair likes and not get hung up on length. Baby your hair and make sure she feels soft and loved all the time.

I do love your hair product. How do you prevent it from going rancid or damaging to the scalp without preservatives?

    • screwyhair
      December 25, 2012

      Thanks, Jasmine :-)

Oils go rancid when they contain water, as the water provides a place for bacteria to grow and thrive, so I always make sure to get out all of the moisture during coconut processing and I ensure all containers and tools are dry, while avoiding cross-contamination of tools. You can therefore store Screwy Hair Butter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight while you use it regularly and it’ll be just the same as the day it was made.

      Thanks for stopping by!

Hi any chance you could send me the products by post I’m in Nairobi Kenya? Thanks

      May 28, 2012

      Hi Wacuka,

Thanks for coming over! Unfortunately, I only sell within Lagos; the cost of sending it to Nairobi would far exceed the cost of the product :-( Hopefully, I’ll be able to do so in the future at a cost that makes sense.

      Thanks again!

I’d love to buy this, product junkie that I am! I have a separate leave-in, strengthener AND butter for sealing..lol..but this says moisturise, strengthen and seal? In one jar? Sign me up! (but only when my three separate jars are empty..haha..)

      January 14, 2012

      Hi Nnenna,

I can only sell in Lagos for now, unfortunately. I do plan to make the product available in a couple other Nigerian cities later this year (depending on sales), but for now if you know anyone coming this way, they can get some for you.

      Thanks for your interest!

That’s where I hope to grow to, but it’ll take some time to get there. If you know anyone coming to Lagos, please let me know and we can make arrangements.
